History

The band SO LONG ANGEL (SLA) were together, gigging and recording from 1996.

FRAN McGILLIVRAY on vocals & bass with MIKE BURKE on guitars originated an electric band (Storeyville) in 1995 after having toured the UK & Europe as a duo wearing a folk/roots mantle; they still do a very bluesy duo set on a regular basis.

In 1996 ROLAND KEMP on keyboards joined Fran & Mike plus their then drummer Tony Gainsborough. This is the time that the name SO LONG ANGEL was adopted. For the historians this naming occurred in October in the 'Rosemary Branch' pub in New Cross; wow, awesome moment?!?

The quartet lasted a year until Les Morgan replaced Tony on drums and Michael Paice and others played on tenor & alto sax and harmonica. The group was revolutionized! A gig circuit was set up and things really started to cook. Les was, and is, a very busy musician and outside demands resulted in a most harmonic drift around the millennium although the maestro still plays with SLA on occasions.

The present line-up has been a unit for several years since ROGER NUNN joined on drums, percussion, digital recording ability and unflagging encouragement.

So, that's who we are, generically...

Fran and Mike also continue to perform as a duo and the Fran McGillivray Band
